The Hoya is blooming.....

At long last, our precious Hoya plant has awarded us with blooms. It was really a long wait from just a few stem cuttings that we brought back from our home country more than two years ago. We just soaked these cuttings in a bottle of water till tiny roots emerged, then transfered them to a few planters which eventually only one survived. The 'sole' survivor was later transfered to hanging coconut husk planter.














The first bloom which is rather small (around 1/2 cm dia for each tiny flower) and is slightly biege. The whole bloom just lasted for about 2 days before all the tiny flowers just falling off from the main stem. I was told not to cut-off the flower stem because tiny flower buds will just re-emerge again later...is it true?




















We were really surprised to see the subsequent blooms were totally different from the first, absolutely gorgeous. The blooms are larger with the tiny flowers slightly bigger (more than 1cm in diameter) and were of different colour...between red and mauve. The tiny flowers lasted longer and altogether there are more than 5 flower stems produced by the plant at a time...isn't it beautiful...this is really our 'prize' fruit of labour.
